Mary C. Menard

Mary C. Menard, DVM
Veterinarian

Dr. Menard is a graduate of the Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine and a longtime resident of New York. She opened the practice in Salem in 1996 and has enjoyed many years of building relationships with pets and their owners. Borador Animal Hospital is a small animal practice with a small-town feel, where the focus has been and continues to be on providing personalized care for our patients with up-to-date medicine and surgery.

Dr. Menard lives on a small farm in Shushan with many animals of her own. She cares for her horses, cats, dogs, and two miniature donkeys, Walter and Fiona. She enjoys hiking, horseback riding, and anything outdoors in her free time, as well as spending time with her family.

Professionally, Dr. Menard is a member of many organizations (American Veterinary Medical Association, New York Veterinary Medical Society, Capital District Veterinary Medical Society, and Vermont Veterinary Medical Association) and serves as director of the Historic Salem Courthouse Preservation Association.

Lisa Fronhofer Oswald, DVM
Veterinarian

Dr. Oswald graduated from Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. After graduation, she moved to the Boston area where she worked as an emergency veterinarian, small animal practitioner, and had her own house call practice. She moved back to her hometown of Salem and joined Borador in 2016. She particularly enjoys working with clients to protect the human animal bond and enhance the level of wellness for their pets through all life stages. Dr. Oswald lives in Salem with her husband, Charlie, and their two sons. They also share their home with their kitty, Meowie. In her spare time, she loves hiking, spending time with her large extended family, reading, and being outside as much as possible.

Lisa Fronhofer Oswald
Tess Alecksynas, DVM
Veterinarian

Dr. Tess Alecksynas joined Borador Animal Hospital in April 2026, bringing with her a lifelong love of animals and more than 15 years of experience in veterinary medicine.

A Washington County, NY native, Dr. Tess grew up on a dairy farm, where her love for animals and caring for them began at an early age. She has worked in veterinary medicine since 2010 and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2020.

Today, Dr. Tess practices emergency and preventive medicine on Cape Cod while also caring for patients here at Borador. She loves getting to know her patients and their families and helping each one enjoy a happy, healthy life.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Tess shares her home with her three dogs, Ryleigh, Jiminy, and Annie, and her two cats, Moo-fasa and Oscar. When she’s not caring for animals, she enjoys kayaking, hiking, and getting lost in a good book.

Laura Svala Berkowitz, DVM
Veterinarian

Dr. Laura Berkowitz is extremely excited and grateful to join the Borador team. She graduated from The University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Science, received her doctorate from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, and completed her clinical studies at Cornell University in 2007. After having worked as a veterinary technician, interned as a zookeeper, and assisted with wildlife rehabilitation, she decided to pursue a career as a veterinarian when she found herself stimulated by the study of veterinary medicine and enamored with restoring health and comfort to our furry friends.

For the last 19 years, Dr. Laura has been practicing small animal medicine in the Berkshires and Eastern Massachusetts. She very recently moved to Dorset, Vermont with her husband, Brian, daughter, Ayla, and her two Southern mutts, Pablo and Junie.

Dr. Laura has a particular interest in internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and a holistic approach to veterinary care. Laura has a profound love for all critters and is extremely dedicated to the veterinary care of her patients and fostering a strong bond with their guardians.

In her free time, Laura can be found hiking with her family and pups, seeing live music, crafting, gardening, traveling, and enjoying any outdoor adventure.

Shannon Talmadge
Shannon Talmadge
Practice Manager

Shannon began working for Borador as a Veterinary Technician Assistant during her breaks from college until graduation from Oneonta State in 1999. After graduation, she enjoyed working as a farm manager on two large dairies in Northern Vermont. She returned to the area and fulfilled the role of practice manager in 2005. She really loves being a part of a very dedicated team.

Shannon lives in Argyle with her husband and daughter. They share their home with two kitties, Barley and Basil. She enjoys gardening, spending time with her family, and watching her daughter’s many sporting events.

Laura Gangloff
Laura Gangloff, LVT
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Laura graduated from SUNY Delhi in May 2006. As an animal lover since childhood, it only seemed natural for her to work in this profession. She has been working at Borador Animal Hospital since June 2005, but her family’s pets have been cared for by Borador for many years. She enjoys her job and finds it very rewarding to help nurse critically ill patients back to health. Laura currently lives in Eagle Bridge with her boyfriend, Devin, their two dogs, Oden and Loki, cat Finn and two miniature horses, Rosie and Charlie Horse. In her free time, Laura enjoys reading and camping with friends and family.

Cheyenne Watts, LVT
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Cheyenne is a SUNY Delhi graduate and has been a Licensed Veterinary Technician since 2015. She joined the Borador team in 2022. She has a special interest in surgery and dentistry. Her personal pets include a silly Frenchie named Dolly and a sweet miniature Dachshund named Little Einstein. She is a busy mother of three, including a set of twins! Cheyenne enjoys crafting, camping, and going on fun trips with her kids.

Alivia Jones
Veterinary Assistant

Alivia grew up in Granville, NY, where she spent every moment she could with her horses. In high school, she loved being in the Ag classroom, especially when it involved working with animals of all sizes. She joined the team at Borador Animal Hospital in October 2023 and has felt right at home ever since. Alivia lives nearby with her boyfriend, Zach, and their crew of pets. Outside of work, she enjoys competing in rodeos and spending time outdoors with her friends and family.

Cassidy Pickering

Veterinary Assistant

Cassidy grew up bringing her pets to Borador Animal Hospital, so joining the team in 2025 already felt like home. She recently bought a home in Cambridge with her little dog, three cats, and a flock of chickens. In her free time, she enjoys lazy days on the couch with her animals, exploring the woods, and working on home projects. Cassidy also hopes to add a big, playful puppy to her family in the future.

Margaret is a native of Shushan and continues to live there with her husband, Trevor, and their son, Sam. They share their home with their dogs, Sierra and Toro, and 5 cats. She has spent her life on a small farm and has had the privilege of being around a variety of large and small animals. Along with working the farm, she has spent over 15 years in the customer care business. Margaret loves being part of the Borador team and working with animals. She enjoys spending time with her family, helping others, cooking, gardening, and being outdoors.
